About the Department
The Rabindranath Tagore Library and Information Centre is housed in a 3,034 sq. mt. (74’ × 41½’) building with a seating capacity of 100. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and serves as a vital support system for academic excellence by providing an extensive collection of books, journals, and reference materials. The spacious and fully computerized environment offers an ideal setting for learning, research, and intellectual exploration.
The library remains open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and operates six days a week. It features several specialized sections, including a Reference Section, Career Guidance Section, Book Bank, Project and Question Bank Section, Back Volume Section, Own Book Reading Room, and an NLIST Resource Network Centre.
Additional facilities include Reprographic Services for photocopying reference materials, Barcoded Book Identification, and Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) for efficient organization and retrieval of resources.
Rules and Regulations
Entry and Conduct
  • Identity card is mandatory for library entry.
  • Scan the ID card at the e-gate upon entry and exit.
  • Maintain proper dress code and strict silence inside the library.
  • Respect library property and handle all books with care.
Borrowing Rules
  • Students may borrow a maximum of three books for 15 days.
  • Books can be renewed once for an additional 15 days if not reserved.
  • Check books for damage before borrowing and report any issues immediately.
  • Fines:
    • - Minor damage – 30
    • - Late return – 1 per day
  • Books in special demand may be recalled at any time.
Responsibilities
  • Books are non-transferable.
  • Return all borrowed materials before long vacations.
  • No marking, underlining, or annotation is allowed in books.
  • Lost or severely damaged books must be replaced or paid at double the cost.
  • The library reserves the right to suspend borrowing privileges for violations.
  • The Library Committee may revise rules periodically.
